April 12, 2007So we (and by we I mean Becca and Aaron) installed a new 6 foot privacy fence gate with a latch to keep our dogs in and mean pitbulls out. Well, one night during a storm it blew open and the dogs got out. We found them right away but needless to say we added a lock the next day. We put a master lock that has to have a key to open. Well, somehow yesterday the wind and the dogs were able to push it far enough where the latch came out of the whole. I normally come home right after work but instead I met Katy at the Name Brand Clothing store near my work to look for some new work pants. We got home about 6:15 and there were no dogs to greet me….no dogs in the backyard….and the gate was wide open!!!!!!! I panicked and starting running up and down the streets…no dogs. I called Katy, Aaron and Leigh and we all started looking. Leigh called the animal shelter, humane society and every vet clinic in the area…they were all closed!!! Then it was time for Becca to get off work and she joined us in looking. Rhonda and Mark got done working out and came looking on foot and by car. We asked everyone we passed if they had seen the dogs. 2 ladies saw them at 4:00 crossing Capital close to the Boys and Girls Club. Then a neighbor saw Michigan and 1 pug at 6:00 on 4th street. So finally we found Michigan and Roosevelt at the ball field behind the Boys and Girls Club. Roosevelt was outside the fence and somehow Michigan had gotten locked in the fence. There had been a game earlier and I am sure they wanted to be around people. But when the game was over he somehow got locked in. Well, in the process of trying to get him out he somehow made it to the roof and was trying to jump off to get out!!! Becca jumped the tall fence and ripped her pants a little in the process and finally found a hole in the fence and got out. Well, 2 down and 1 to go. By this time Courtney had joined the search and rescue team armed with a box of treats! Donna had also driven into town to help and had little Lucy with her! We drove, walked, ran and rode our bikes until our legs hurt. We had given up around 9 and were walking home when I got the call from katy….They went looking for us and passed a neighbor outside on his porch and Courtney asked if he had seen a little pug. He said yes and she said, "with a smooshed face?" and he said "I know what a pug is! My roommate took it to Hillcrest Animal Hospital this afternoon." JOY!!!!! We were all celebrating and screaming! Woo-hoo! So now I just had to make it through the night because they didn’t open until 8:00am. Well, I have her safe at home now and we have put cinder clocks in front of the gate until we can get a new latch. I will probably keep the doggie door blocked off today just in case! Thanks to everyone!!! Love you all for helping! I love you anyway, but even more now for helping in my time of despair!
